Saturday in Brighton

On Saturday, June 9, 2007 - Chuck and I visited the town of Brighton along the southern coast of England. It was about an hours drive from Portsmouth - but took about 1.5 hours because of a traffic accident on the A27. The big attraction in Brighton is what's known as the Royal Pavilion. The Royal Pavilion was created as a royal palace for King George IV so that he could rendezvous with his mistress. The outside architecture was very much Indian, while the inside was decorated in Chinese. We took a tour inside the Royal Pavilion with a guide. It was very informative. While we were in Brighton we got a taste of the colorful culture over there when we passed a nude bicycle race. Yep -- everyone was bicycling nude. I thought it was hilarious.

After our tour of the Royal Pavilion we ate lunch in a quaint little park where we had monster egg salad and ham & cheese banquettes for about £3 each. Not bad - considering the sandwich was huge. After lunch we walked along the pier in Brighton all the way to the end where there was a little amusement area - with rides. After that it was time to leave - when I realized I ran out of cash and needed to find an ATM. Of course the first one I came to rejected my American Card - but luckily we eventually found another one and made our way back to Portsmouth.
